All About August

The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noon, and sunsets smeared with too much color. Often at night there is lightning, but it quivers all alone. There is no thunder, no relieving rain. There are strange and breathless days, the dog days, when people are led to do things they are sure to be sorry for after.

August, a month which brings rain, writings, emotions and memories that fail to escape our mind every single time we reminisce. Miss Walls loves August and so do we but are memories really that enriching without smiles? I think by now, we all know what Team Detectives and Miss Walls are here for.

Miss Walls was sneaking around the corner of our very own avenue, ‘International Service’ and well, August does have some pretty important but funny internationally recognized days. Thus, as Miss Walls tells us about these days, and the secrets of one of our favorite avenues, let’s take a look at what we have on our plate for August.

RCKC TREK 2021

The very first day of August is recognized as ‘Mountain Climbing Day‘ and as coincidence calls us, our Club Service Directors did arrange one of the most exciting events of the year, ‘RCKC Trek’; and if we were to quote Miss Walls, she’d say, “a breathtaking trip with entertainment knowing no ends.” She says that she also made a lot of friends on trek to celebrate ‘Friendship Day’ with. Personally we think we’re enough but whatever, Miss Walls. Sundays aren’t that bad to spend alone either which brings us to think about the first Sunday of August, and the day we’ll be enjoying without Miss Walls, ‘World Friendship Day‘ because guess what? We’ve got Rotaract Family, a family we would have never imagined having and talking about friendships and family, what is it if not laughing till your stomach hurts?

Here’s another writing we had a difficult time processing because of its raw emotions.

“it feels like August was just knocking on my door but already I see her turned, face to the open frame and she longs to be in the free in all the ways Summer promised, always promises. a breeze rushes past her and it sounds nearly wild, feels warm like a teenage memory and I know August still has hope, still refuses to believe that even the sun breaks promises.”

You know, August is pretty convenient as well when it comes to internationally recognized days. Don’t believe us? 6th August is recognized as ‘International Beer Day’ followed by ‘International Hangover Day’. Miss Walls seemed to know a lot about this apparently which is a subject we’ll dive into later. Anyway, have you guys heard about the question that caused battles and wars in every history of every town? One important case, one important question we completely forgot to present in ’Cryptic Clues’ was the long age one; are dogs better or cats? If you ask August, she will tell you it’s surely cats and so will I because let’s face it, 8th August is ‘World Cat Day‘ for a reason.

From classical music to rap, from indie to pop music, everyone treats their playlist in such precious ways, one wouldn’t dare to share. We feel every string, every note and every instrument is so strange in its own manner that we owe it a celebration and thus, 24th August is recognized as ‘International Strange Music Day’ so gear yourself up to put on your headphones and listen to music with us while cleaning your room (not talking about Lara Jean at all)

We know for a fact that that while listening to this lovely recipe like playlist, the ingredients will have you reminiscing and this brings us to an extremely essential topic: Rock, Paper and Scissors. Our childhood has witnessed us play this game and Miss Walls and the Detectives still play it and guess who wins? The detectives, duh.

You don’t have to give us that look, Miss Walls. Everyone knows it’s Team Detectives over Miss Walls any day.

Anyway, we will surely be playing it on 27th August at the 17th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of K.C. College and maybe, if fate has it, you might get to meet Miss Walls as well there. She’s invited, right? Anyway, make sure you guys are there on Youtube and Facebook live with us as we bid farewell with tears and trade it with warm welcomes and smiles. Here’s to one of the most gracious days we all are looking forward to!

August of another summer, and once again I am drinking the sun.
